Chennai, Jul 6 : The much-awaited Krishna water from the Kandaleru reservoir, which was released on Monday evening, reached the Tamil Nadu border today. The discharge of Krishna water was suspended in mid-April owing to damage to the canal at Ubbalamadugu near Varadapalayam. A temporary channel was dug and the water was being diverted through it until the repair work was completed by September, official sources said. As per an inter-state agreement inked in 1976, Tamil Nadu was entitled for 15 tmcft of water between April and June under the Telugu Ganga project. Krishna water has been augmenting the drinking water need of Chennai. The four reservoirs at Chembarambakkam, Sholavaram, Red Hills and Poondi in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts are the city's main water sources.
