Chennai, Jan 4 ; Two-wheeler major India Yamaha Motor is eyeing sale of one million units by 2015, a top company official said today.
Talking to reporters after launching Female Riding Training Program by Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, Company National Business Head, Roy Kurian said about 40 per cent of the one million sales target was expected to come from the scooter segment. He said the scooter segment was growing at around 20 per cent and the two-wheeler at 11 per cent. After venturing into the scooters segment with the launch of its 'Ray' model in September last year, Mr Kurian said the product was well received by the customers as the company had sold more than 35,000 units till date.
"We are eyeing a sales target of 500,000 units this year of which a significant numbers will be from scooters", he said, adding, the company would be focussing on the souther markets for the scooters. He said Yamaha Motor India's new 1.5 million unit facility, coming up on the city outskirts with an investment of Rs 1,500 crores, would be commissioned next year. "Initially scooters will be rolled out from the new plant, which will also cater to overseas markets", he added. On the Riding Training Programme, he said it was aimed at targeting the women segment for its scooters.
