Raising Day to be celebrated

Chennai, Aug 14 : The Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala (ATNK and K) Area headquartered here will celebrate the Raising Day tomorrow as part of India's 67th Independence Day.

To mark this day, a Special Sainik Sammelan for all ranks of the Army Garrison was organised today. Presiding over the Sainik Sammelan, Lieutenant General VK Pillai, General Officer Commanding, ATNK & K Area appreciated the efforts of his command in improving the lives of all serving personnel, veterans and their dependents spread over the vast geographical area of the four Southern States.

He lauded the selfless support rendered by formation to the civil administration over the years during natural calamities and disasters. The Madras Garrison was established by Lieutenant Jarmin on February 20 1640. On August 4, 1947, the final farewell parade was held at Fort Saint George by the First Battalion, The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The celebration will culminate in a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the Victory War Memorial here tomorrow.
