Strike by Central Govt employees evoke partial response

Puducherry, Dec 12 : The one day nation wide strike called by the Central Government employees Maha Sammelan evoked only partial response.

Only a section of the Post and Central Excise Departments employees participated in the strike while the BSNL employees and JIPMER employees boycotted work for one hour and held demonstrations in front of their offices. However, work in several state government departments were affected as the Puducherry State Government Employees Central Federation and Confederation of Puducherry State Government Employees Associations besides teachers participated in the agitation.

While the central federation held a dharna in front of the Head Post Office here, the confederation held a dharna at Avvai Tthidal Saram here. The teachers also joined the confederation. The Central Government Employees Maha Sammelan had called for the nation wide strike today demanding the dropping of the new pension scheme, setting up of the 7th pay commission, provision of 50 per cent DA along with salary and filling up of all vacant posts among other things.
