Bangalore, Nov 29 : Establishment of Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Corporation (SWAYEM) under the Companies Act has been recommended in the Karnataka Youth Policy prepared by State Youth Services and Sports and Karnataka Knowledge Commission.
In the Policy submitted to the Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here today, it was stated that the Corporation shall act as a 'Think-tank on youth related ideas and initiatives, implement youth-oriented programs and coordinate the activities of the different departments involved in the implementation of the Youth Policy in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
Review and monitor the implementation of Youth Policy schemes as provided for in the budget, establishment of linkages and liaison with other governments, bodies, agencies, institutes both nationally and internationally for the benefit of youth are other features of the policy, The Youth Policy calls for the separate comprehensive Sports Policy. It recommended to constitution of a Task Force to ensure acceptance of the policy by the Government and commence its implementation in a project mode.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to encourage youth and has earmarked Rs 4534 Crore for development activities from various departments. Besides Rs 25 crore has been released for preparation of the Youth Policy and its implementation. 'There are 1.90 crore youth in the State and it was aimed to encourage them to get moulded as good citizen of the state and the country,' he added. The Youth Policy was presented by Steering Committee Chairman Girish Patel in the presence of Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports M P Appachu Ranjan among others.
