Chennai, Nov 17: India defeated Hong Kong 2-0 in the World Team Squash championship in France and would meet Ireland for the fifth place in the play off. This was India's best performance in a World event. Seeded tenth, India bounced back from their quarter-final defeat at the hands of Egypt, by overcoming its Asian rival Hong Kong, seeded fourt, a earn a slot in the play-off for fifth place.
Top ranked player Dipika Pallikal, ranked 13 in the world, scored a notable scalp by beating Annie Au in nearly an hour. She squandered a 2-0 lead before fighting back against the World No.9 to win 11-5, 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 11-5. Inspired by her senior team-mate's success, 18-year-old Anaka Alankamony then went on to defeat higher-ranked Hong Kong opponent Tong Tsz-Wing 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 to seal victory for India.
