Kolkata, May 15 : The artificial turf at the Vidyasagar Krirangan, popularly known as Barasat Stadium, has achieved a Two-star rating from World football body FIFA.
The project, a joint initiative of All India Football Federation and FIFA under the 'Win in India with India,' Programme is likely to host some I-League matches for seasons 2013-14. AIFF general secretary Kushal Das thanked FIFA for its cooperation. ' We are extremely grateful to FIFA for their support.
The Krirangan is now blessed with an excellent artificial turf which will promote good quality football in the near future. 'We will continue our endeavour to provide good infrastructure for the promotion of the sport in the country,' he added. The 'Win in India with India' Project now has State-of-the-Art playing fields in Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai and Kolkata (Barasat).
Two more fields would soon be installed in Goa (Fatorda) and Kerala (Kochi). After Yuba Bharati Stadium in Salt Lake, the Barasat Stadium, some 30kms north-east of Kolkata, is the second artificial football ground in West Bengal that can host an international tourney.
