Chandigarh, Oct 28 Harmohinder Singh Chatha was
today unanimously elected as Speaker of the Haryana Assembly,
a post he will hold for the third time.
The name of 74-year-old Chatha was proposed by Congress
MLA from Kaithal Randeep Singh Surjewala and seconded by
members belonging to other parties.
However, immediately after Chatha's election, six members
of the opposition Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) led by Kuldeep
Bishnoi walked out of the House.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and INLD President
and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala welcomed Chatha,
a four-time MLA. He was re-elected this time from Pehowa in
Kurukshetra district.
Hooda said he hoped Chatha will conduct the proceedings of
the House even better than in the past and uphold its dignity
and "set right" the atmosphere which prevailed in the House in
the past. - (Agencies)
