Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 17 : The alleged torture of a five-year-old boy Shafeeq, who was admitted in a serious condition to a private hospital at Kattappana in Idukki district by his father and stepmother, is an insult and shame to the state, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here today.
Briefing on Cabinet decisions, Mr Chandy said Government will give better treatment to the boy and would bear all the treatment expenses. "Let’s pray that his condition gets better", he said, adding that Government will take up the protection of the child once he recuperates. 'Kerala Social Welfare Minister M K Munner will visit the hospital and would take stock of the situation.
Government sees such things very seriously. Several precautionary measures are taken to see that no such incident repeats,' he said. A committee has been constituted under Additional Chief Secretary to look into the matter and report will have to be submitted within a month. On the basis of this report future plans will be formulated. Jagratha Samithis will be constituted in schools. Head masters, principals of schools and organisations will have the responsibility to contemplate such issues and report the same. Strict action will be taken by the police if any person gives information regarding such activities.
