Cuddalore (TN), Nov 3: Workers affiliated to 13 unrecognised trade unions in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation have decided to go on an indefinite strike from November 5, protesting vast difference in the Deepavali bonus paid to them and officers.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the joint council of the trade unions in Neyveli yesterday, AIADMK affiliated union President Rama Udayakumar told PTI today.
He said as per the agreement reached between the two recognised unions affiliated to DMK and PMK and the management last month, the workmen were paid a bonus of Rs 50,000 plus incentives while the officers got Rs 80,000.
The 13 unions wanted the bonus for the workmen to be increased, he said.
NLC had a workforce of 7,000 engineers and 13,000 workmen.
NLC Deputy Chief Manager P Venugopal said the proposed strike would not affect either the lignite excavation work or power generation at the thermal plant.
