Niraj hits ton, Gujarat give 379-run target to Orissa

Ahmedabad, Nov 5 Riding on Niraj Patel's dominating 107, Gujarat posted an improbable target of 379 to win before Orissa in their Ranji Trophy Super League Group A match at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium here today.

Gujarat, who piled up 270 runs in first innings and then skittled out the visitors for 192, declared their second essay at 301 for six after their batting line-up put up a consistent performance on the third day.

Orissa were 10 for one after 3.4 overs, with skipper Shiv Sunder Das (1) unbeaten when day's game was called off.

Resuming at four for none, the hosts dealt with an early blow when India discard pacer Debesis Mohanty (1/42) removed opener Jay Desai (5) cheaply, after which Patel joined Hem Joshipura (39) to stitch up a 93-run partnership for second wicket.
