Farmer's Union urges permission for digging Borewells

Coimbatore, Nov 30 : A farmers union today urged to Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jayanthi Natarajan to give them permission to dig a borewell or a well to get water for agriculture at ten places in ten districts in Tamil Nadu, which were declared as 'Red alert areas' as the ground water level had gone down.

The Association's General Secretary P Kandasamy said in a letter to the Union Minister that people in those areas depended solely on agriculture. Hence, they were seeking permission to dig borewells.
