Bharathiya Kissan Sangam plea to CM on agri budget

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 22 : The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharathiya Kissan Sangam (BKS) today appealed to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to prepare an exclusive budget for agriculture from the next financial year onwards.

In a statement here today, BKS State Vice-President P Ayyakannu pointed out that Chief Minister's announcement of Rs 2350 as procurement price per tonne of sugarcane was disappointing for the sugarcane growers as the input cost incurred by them was at an all time high. He said to condemn the Central and State Governments' 'anti-farmers' attitude and demanding Rs 5,000 per tonne of sugarcane as procurement price, it was decided to lauch a state wide agitation next month.

He also requested the Central and State Governments to write off all the farm loans until famers get economic price for the agricultural produce and provide copmpensation to the Cauvery Delta farmers as both Kuruvai and Samba paddy crops had been destroyed due to non-release of water from Cauvery by Karnataka Government. He appealed to the Union Government to link River Cauvery with Bramhaputra, Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari and Mahanadhi Rivers and protect the interest of the farmers of Tamil Nadu.
