Tirunelveli, Nov 2 : In a pre-dawn heist, unidentified dacoits robbed about one KG of gold ornaments and 40 KG of silver utensils from a jewellery shop at Thisayanvilai near here.

The dacoity was noticed this morning when the owner opened the shop for business. The dacoits gained entry into the shop by breaking the locks and decamped with the booty. Preliminary reports said one KG of gold jewellery and 40 KG of silver utensils were missing. However, only a complete check of the stock would bring to light the exact estimate of the loss, police said.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police Vijayendra Bidari and forensic experts rushed to the shop and held an inquiry. A special team was formed to arrest the culprits.
