Chennai, Dec 23 : The brutal gang rape of a 28 year-old paramedical student in New Delhi last Sunday which has been evoking nationwide agitations , witnessed a nove rally here this evening.

On the world famous Marina beach front here a 12th standard school girl in the city, Haritha Dhananjayan, led a rally from the labur statue to a statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. She was supported by a few well known actresses of Tamil cinema including Suhasini maniratnam, Poornima bhagyaraj and Fathima Babu, besides the head of an NGO 'Naam Foundation' Ms Weena and actor Raghav. Haritha's father Disney Dhananjayan, who is the head of the Tamil Nadu unit of UTV.

More than 5000 people participated in the rally on being informed about it by their friends and on twitter, the organisers said. The rally was also to protest against the attempted rape and murder of a seventh standard school girl studying seventh standard at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu last week.
