Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 31 : An innovative programme of rising horticulture plantation on 500 acres in a phased manner to benefit more than 500 weaker section people has been launched in the Godavari River bed near Venkatanagaram Village in Rajahmundry Rural Mandal today.
Mr Vundavalli Arunkumar, MP, while launching the programme as the chief guest, described it as novel and eventful as it was taken up under 'Indira Prabha' programme coinciding with the Ms Indira Gandhi's death anniversary. 'Initially, 70 farmers were given 58 acres of land for cultivation and the remaining will be given possession by next March end. The farmers should adopt new farming methods availing farm experts advice for achieving optimum yields there by making the land ideal for farming' he added.
M Francis, Assistant Director, Information Department and Special Officer Rural Mandal, who presided, said the bushes in 500 acres area were cleared under MGNREGS and Rs.32 lakhs paid towards wages to the beneficiaries. Mr D Srinivasa Rao, MPDO, Rajahmundry Rural Mandal, said that 14 filter points and equal number of oil engines were provided to the farmers of these lands under 'Jalaprabha' scheme.
