Chennai, Oct 3 : AIADMK General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today relieved three District Secretaries of the party, including senior leader C Ve Shanmugham, from their party posts.
In a statement here, she said Mr Shanmugham, considered the AIADMK strongman in Villuppuram, was relieved from the post of Villuppuram North District Secretary and was replaced by Dr R Lakshmanan, who was hitherto functioning as Villupuram North District Doctors' Wing Secretary. Ms Jayalalithaa also relieved North Chennai District Secretary P Vetrivel from the post and replaced him with T G Venkatesh Babu, who is currently the North Chennai MGR Mandram Joint Secretary.
She also removed South Chennai District Secretary G Senthamizhan and appointed Virugai V N Ravi, who is currently the Virugambakkam area Secretary of the AIADMK, in his place. Ms Jayalalithaa appealed to party workers to extend their full support to the newly appointed office-bearers of the party. In the last few days, Ms Jayalalithaa had been carrying out changes in the composition of office-bearers in the party units of North Chennai and other areas. Many functionaries from Royapuram and R K Nagar were expelled from primary membership of the party.
The Rajya Sabha member of Parliament N Balaganga was made district Secretary of the North Chennai unit. Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar, who was elected from Royapuram and a strongman in North Chennai, resigned from the post of Speaker a few days back, apparently for his grand birthday celebrations.
