Hyderabad, Nov 29 : The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen today criticized the State Government for trying to legislate the SC-ST Sub-Plan without putting the draft into the public domain for suggestions and objections.
Talking to reporters after attending the Business Advisory Committee Meeting here, MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who recently withdrew support to the Congress over a temple row, said the government without, keeping the draft legislation into public domain, was showing that it was not serious about the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the State.
The proposed legislation should be discussed in a regular session of the Legislative Assembly at least for four days, he said and alleged the government was trying to pass the legislation without any debate on sub-plan. Expressing doubts that there may have been loopholes in the proposed legislation , Mr.Owaisi said Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was trying to prove that he was the champion of SCs and STs. If the Chief Minister was serious, then he would have taken public suggestions and objections into consideration, he pointed out.
"Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy's absence from the BAC meeting itself proves that he is not serious about SC-ST Sub-Plan", he alleged. The MIM would extend full cooperation to the government on all its moves aimed at welfare of Dalits, however, he said, such steps should be taken with complete sincerity. He also demanded the government to introduce Sub-Plan for the Minorities and Backward Classes on the lines of SC/ST Sub-Plan.
