Former TN minister seeks anticipatory bail in assault case

Erode (TN), Nov 3: Former Tamil Nadu minister and expelled Erode MLA N K K P Raja, wanted by police in an assault case, has moved a local court seeking anticipatory bail.

The application of Raja seeking bail for himself and his wife Uma Maheswari was likely to come up for hearing before the Principal District Judge court tomorrow, court sources said.

Crime-Branch CID police had filed a case against Raja for allegedly assaulting a man, who had earlier accused Raja of kidnapping and land grabbing, on October 21.

Raja, was expelled from the primary membership of DMK on October 25 for violating party discipline. He was dropped from the state Cabinet last year following the land grabbing allegation.

CB-CID DSP Sambasivam today said the agency would oppose the bail application of Raja.

He said one more person was arrested last night in connection with the assault case, taking the total number of those detained to five. The CB-CID was looking for Raja, his wife and three others.

In a related development, CB-CID police are assessing the properties of Uma Maheswari in Erode, Kanjikoil and other parts. - Agencies
