Kohima, Nov 14: In commemoration of 50th State anniversary of Nagaland Statehood, the 7th Edition of Hornbill Motor Rally will be held on December 3 and 4 next. According to sources, the Motor Rally is organised by the Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA), which is supported and sponsored by the Government of Nagaland and JK Tyre respectively. The Hornbill Motor Rally will be held under license from the Federation of Motor Sports Council of India (FMSCI). The format for the motor rally, both four and two wheeler categories, will be Time, Speed and Distance (TSD).
The Motor Rally will be flagged from IG Stadium, Kohima and the participants will traverse around 100 kilometers and finish at IG Stadium. On December 3, there will be documentation and scrutiny and on December 4 the TSD Rally and the prize distribution ceremony. This year there will be two categories of competition - Professional and Novice. The NAMSA office at 116 Duncan, Opposite Morung Express, Dimapur is already issuing entry forms and SR and the standard closing date will be November 26 and the late entry date is November 28. The Motor Rally will have large media coverage from the mainland as well as the local media.
The WW II Peace Rally is also organised by NAMSA and sponsored by the State Department of Tourism and JK Tyre will be sponsoring the trophies for the event. The WWII Peace Rally programme will flagged off at 0800 hours at the War Cemetery, Kohima after a wreath laying ceremony and will culminate at WW II Museum, Naga Heritage village, Kisama where the prize distribution ceremony will be held. The main objective of the peace rally is to promote motor sports, tourism and Nagaland as a tourist destination and peace. This is also to promote the history of one of the fiercest battles that was fought during the WW-II and Kohima and Dimapur became the centre-stage for dominion among nations.
