Chennai, Aug22 : Madras High Court has upheld Tamil Nadu government's proposal to recruit 1,880 computer teachers through a special test meant only for those computer teachers already working in various schools on a consolidated pay.
A Division Bench, comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal, which heard the matter, observed that the government's proposal appears to be genuine and reasonable.
'We direct the government to conduct the entire selection process on the basis of special test within six months,'the Bench held.
The Bench also said the left over vacancies and other vacancies, if any, shall be filled within three months by making open the recruitment to all eligible B Ed and M Ed candidates on employment seniority basis.
The issue related to divergent views of two groups,Higher Secondary School Computer Teachers Association and Tamil Nadu Computer Science B Ed Graduate Teachers Welfare Society, over the recruitment of computer teachers in government schools.
While the Teachers Association justified the government's action in calling for applications from the already working teachers, the Teachers Welfare Society opposed the government action.
The Teachers Welfare Society had contended that the government's policy of not insisting on BEd qualification for the candidates was illegal as computer science was not a vocational course but purely a general subject for which only teachers with B Ed qualification must be appointed. - Agencies
