Ramanathapuram, Nov 7: Normal life in several parts of this town and surrounding areas remained badly hit for the second day today with more than 15 main streets remaining under knee deep water,officials said.
In some streets, residents were not able to stir out.
Compared to 115.8 mm yesterday,the region received 30.5 mm of rain.
K.Rahman, a residents' Association office bearer, suggested that officials should drain the water into some of the big lakes in the district.
Town municipal officials said almost all the roads had been damaged in rains and needed immediate repair.
Meanwhile, inflow into the Periyar dam touched 4345 cusecs following rains in the catchment areas.The dam level was 121.20ft(maximum level 136ft)and outflow 1200 cusecs.
The Vaigai dam level stood at 58.99ft(maximum 71ft) with inflow of 1706 cusecs and discharge 1660 cusecs,officials said.
The rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending 0830 hrs today: Andipatti 11mm, Sathiyaru 10mm, Periyar 8mm, Thekkady 7.8mm, Koodalur and Shanmuganathi 5mm each.
