Chennai,Nov 3: Danish duo of Kristian Kirketep Ibsen and Mathias Sletten are on course for winning the championship title in the Volvo Indian International Regatta in progress here at the Chennai Harbour.
Midway the 12-race 29er event, Kristian and Mathias maintained their supremacy and in fact almost mastered the tough course to remain at least penalty of five points at the end of six races that were held in two days.
Coming from a family which has a Sailing Olympic Gold medallist, Kristian has been sailing the 29er only for the past one year but his crew, Mathias has been in the class for the past four years. Mathias is very knowledgeable about the manoeuvres on the trapeze (an arrangement that as per rule allows the sailor to go out of the boat while standing on the very edge of the gunwale).
For the rest of the fleet the contest was actually for the second place and the Bhopal team of Aman Vyas and Sachin Singha showed remarkable abilities in familiarising with the 29er though they have sailed it only for the past fortnight.
But,Vyas and Singha have been helped with their experience in the International 420 which is a double handed dinghy in which they compete as a team nationally.
