Chennai, Nov 4 : The Madras High Court has directed the authorities concerned to consider the elevation of two Inspectors of the Tamil Nadu police to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police and an Additional Superintendent as Superintendent of Police.
In his order, Justice K Venkataraman observed that a Government Order of July 1999 had stated that M Chandrasekaran was given accelerated promotion for his acts of bravery and the vital role played by him in checking and storming operations against Al-Umma activists, thus saving lives of the public and police personnel.
The Judge noted that the order further stated that he was accorded promotion on a regular basis by relaxing the rules and it was not a one-stage accelerated promotion.
The petitioner's case stood on an entirely different footing that he was given promotion for his bravery and by relaxing the rules.
There was no rhyme or reason to refuse further promotion to the petitioner, whose claim was justified, the Judge said and directed that the plea be considered in six weeks.
Chandraekaran, Inspector, Security Wing posted at Salem, sought to quash a G.O. of October 2007 and consequently direct the authorities to promote him as DSP.
He submitted that he was directly recruited as an SI in 1996. While working in Coimbatore, he participated in combing operations to detect hidden bombs and nab Al-Umma (since banned) activists in view of the blasts in the city. He was injured and awarded the Chief Minister's Anna medal for gallantry in 1998. In 1999, he was promoted on regular basis after relaxation of relevant rules. .
