Normal classes resume in Visva Bharati

    
Santiniketan (WB), Nov 5 Normal classes resumed in Visva Bharati university today after the employees and teachers called off their agitation.

Classes were disrupted as the majority of employees and teachers of the central university had started an agitation from October 24 demanding a probe into the alleged financial irregularities committed by Vice-Chancellor Rajat Kanta Roy.

The employees and teachers called off their agitation yesterday after an appeal in this regard by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

The students who had left the campus started returning from home. Though hostels were open a number of students had left the campus, Amitabha Chowdhury, PRO, Visva Bharati said.

Kishore Bhattacharya, the president of the Adhyapak Sabha (teachers union) said "Pranab babu (Pranab Mukherjee) himself has taken up the matter. Our chancellor had assured investigation.
