Chennai, Dec 20 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to expedite the notification of the final order of the Cauvery Waters Disputes Tribunal(CWDT) and constitute the Cuavery Management Board 'forthwith to safeguard the livelihood of farmers of the state.
In a Demi Official letter to the Prime Minister, copy of which was released to the media here, Ms Jayalalithaa said in its order on December 10 this year, the Supreme Court had taken on record the proceedings of the Cauvery Monitoring committee wherein it was stated that the Chairman/Secretary to the Central government ministry of water resourcers that the final order of the CWDT must be notified before the end of December and that the Cauvery Management Bard and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee would be constituted.
'The CWC at its December 7 meeting had categorically stated that the final order of the Tribunal will be notified at the earliest, but not later than the end of this month. 'Once the award is notified, institutions limeCWC and Cauvery Rivery Authority(CRA) will cease to exist,' she said. Then new orgaisations like the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Regulation Committee will be constituted, she said in her letter to the Prime Minister.
