Bellary, Dec 1 : Jailed mining baron and former BJP Minister G Janardhana Reddy has decided to contest in the next Assembly polls in Karnataka and his loyalists have already started the ground work.
According to Reddy's elder brother G Somashekara Reddy, the mining baron had planned to submit an affidavit to the CBI court in Hyderabad, where he is being tried in different cases, including illegal mining involving his Obulapuram Mining Company. Mr Reddy will contest as a nominee of BSR Congress launched by his trusted lieutenant B Sriramulu.
The Reddys, barring his eldest brother G Karunakara Reddy, have parted ways with BJP after the party disowned them after the arrest of Janardhana Reddy. Janardhana Reddy was arrested by the CBI on September 5 last year from his bungalow here and has been under judicial custody ever since.
The CBI is probing his involvement in illegal mining and export of iron ore involving OMC in Andhra Pradesh and Amalgamated Mining Company in Karnataka. Besides he is accused in the sensational cash-for-bail case.
