Puducherry, Feb 20 : Banking and insurance services in the union territory of Puducherry was crippled today as the two day general strike by the central trade unions began today.
Postal and telecom services also remained affected while the state government offices functioned with less attendance. Works in the major industrial estates here also were affected. JIPMER Hospital employees union today observed a fast in support of the general strike.
However, schools and colleges functioned as usual and buses and other mode of transport were seen as usual on the roads and all shops remained opened. It may be noted that eleven central trade unions had called for a two day general strike from today to press their ten pint charter of demands including controlling of inflation and price rise, security to un-organised sector workers and fixing of minimum wage at Rs 10,000 per month.
