Indian carrom team leaves for World Championship

    

Hyderabad, Oct 30 : An eight-member strong Indian carrom team left for Colombo on Tuesday on the successful completion of a five-day coaching camp at Puducherry.

The team will participate in the 6th World Carrom Championship to be held at Galadari Hotel in Colombo. Host Sri Lanka men are the reigning team champions, after they clinched the 2008 edition that was held at Cannes. Indian women are the defending champions in their category.

Meanwhile, the reigning world men champion Yogesh Pardesi will be once again spearhead Indian campaign while S Ilavazhaki, also of India, is the present women world champion, according to information received here. A record number of 18 countries are taking part in this championship. Indian Team-Men: Yogesh Pardesi, K Srinivas (both PSPB), G Bharathidasan (TN) and Prakash Gaikwad (LIC); Women: M Parimala Devi, S Ilavazhaki, Rashmi Kumari (all PSPB) and Kavitha Somanchi (RBI); Managers: Pradip Kumar Hazarika and P S Bachher; Coach: Bharath Bhushan.
